Office of the Lieutenant Governor
Vacant. The Governor will nominate a new Lieutenant Governor in due course.
The Lieutenant Governor is first in the line of succession to the Office of Governor. When a Governor dies in office, the Lieutenant Governor succeeds to the Office of Governor under the Constitution.
The Office of Lieutenant Governor has been vacant since 27 September 2026, when Lieutenant Governor Diane Carrow took the oath of office as Governor. Under the Constitution, the Governor nominates a successor, who must then be confirmed by the Legislature. A nomination will be made in due course.
