State of emergency: Los Santos remains closed after the earthquake. State services are operating from Paleto Bay. Earthquake recovery

Your property after the earthquake

Every home and every business in Los Santos remains the property of its owner. You do not need to do anything.

What has changed

On 26 September 2026 a statement from the Office of the Governor said that property left unattended for more than 72 hours during the emergency would be presumed abandoned under the Emergency Land Stewardship Act, and could be transferred to private partners.

On 27 September 2026 Governor Diane Carrow revoked those provisions. This means:

  • the presumed-abandoned provisions of the Emergency Land Stewardship Act are revoked
  • no home or business in Los Santos will be handed to anybody
  • any transfer already started under those provisions is void
  • every property remains the property of its owner

What you need to do

Nothing. You do not need to register your property, apply to keep it or prove that you own it. You can see the property held in your name on My government record.

Do not enter the Evacuation Zone to check on your property. The State will announce when it is safe to return.

If someone tells you otherwise

No person or company has any right to take, sell or manage your property because of the earthquake. If anyone tells you that your home or business has been transferred, or asks you to pay to keep it, report it to the State.
