In memoriam: Governor Richard Ashcombe
Governor Richard Ashcombe died at Fort Zancudo on Saturday 26 September 2026, aged 64.
Governor Ashcombe suffered a cardiac arrest as the earthquake struck on the evening of Friday 25 September. He was flown to the Fort Zancudo reservation, where medical staff worked through the night to save him. He died there at 03:47 on Saturday 26 September.
The people of San Andreas have lost a Governor who served them with devotion. On behalf of the State, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, his friends and all who worked alongside him.

The delay in announcing his death
Governor Ashcombe's death was not announced until the evening of Sunday 27 September, almost 40 hours after he died. A statement issued in his name on 26 September told the public that he was safe. It was not true, and that statement has since been rescinded in full.
The Office of the Governor acknowledged on 27 September that the announcement was delayed. The same evening, Governor Carrow apologised:
I am sorry that you were not told for almost 40 hours that Governor Ashcombe had died. You had a right to know who was governing you, and you heard it from the news before you heard it from us.
