Harlan J. Mercer, who issued the statement of 26 September 2026, was dismissed as Chief of Staff with immediate effect on 27 September 2026. The Chief of Staff is appointed by the Governor; there is no public application process. The Office of the Governor is being run by the Governor and the executive in the meantime.
