The office has been vacant since 27 September 2026, when Lieutenant Governor Diane Carrow took the oath of office as Governor. Under the Constitution the Governor nominates a successor, who must then be confirmed by the Legislature. No nomination has been made yet.
Responsibilities
- Succeeds to the Office of Governor if the Governor dies, resigns or is removed
- Acts for the Governor when the Governor is absent from the State or unable to act
- Takes on duties the Governor delegates
