FORT ZANCUDO, San Andreas: 27 September 2026
Office of the Governor of San Andreas. Temporary Seat of Government, Fort Zancudo. Statement on the death of Governor Richard Ashcombe and the succession to the Office of Governor.
It is with profound sorrow that the Office of the Governor announces the death of Governor Richard Ashcombe. Governor Ashcombe suffered a cardiac arrest as the earthquake struck on the evening of Friday 25 September. He was flown to the Fort Zancudo reservation, where medical staff worked through the night to save him. He died there at 03:47 on Saturday 26 September. He was 64.
The people of San Andreas have lost a Governor who served them with devotion. On behalf of the State, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, his friends and all who worked alongside him. Flags on all State buildings will fly at half-mast for 30 days. A state memorial will be held when it is safe to do so.
Under the Constitution of the State of San Andreas, when a Governor dies in office the Lieutenant Governor succeeds to the Office of Governor. This evening, at the temporary seat of government, I took the oath of office as the 41st Governor of San Andreas before the Chief Justice of the San Andreas Supreme Court. The Office of Lieutenant Governor is now vacant. A nomination will be made in due course.
The announcement of Governor Ashcombe’s death was delayed for the purpose of ensuring the continuity and security of government during an ongoing emergency. The Office regrets any distress this may have caused.
I have ordered a full review of every decision taken in the name of the Office since 25 September. The suspension of disaster assistance, the confirmed fatality figure, the curfew in Paleto Bay and the provisions of the Emergency Land Stewardship Act relating to presumed abandoned property remain under review.
To the people of Los Santos now sheltering in Paleto Bay: you have not been forgotten, and your State will not forget you.
I will address the people of San Andreas in the coming days.
Governor Diane Carrow.
